How To Take Care of Your Hair Extensions in Summer

Summertime is almost here and I am sure we are all looking forward to enjoying a swim at the beach or laying by the pool. But for those who have installed our hair extensions, we want you to take care of them as you've invested this money, let's invest in maintaining them and making them last the longest they could last. Here are some refresher tips on summertime hair care for your hair extensions on how to make the hair extensions last and keep that quality all throughout for the summer.

Sunscreen and Hair Extensions

So now let’s talk about sunscreen, one of the first things you want to do is make sure to always protect your skin but in saying that you need to think about your extensions as well. You want to stay away from the chemical-based sunscreens and use a mineral-based one.

What sunscreens can do, is especially if you have blonde hair and you spray it on and you don't protect your hair, it can turn orange or different colors so you want to keep that sunscreen off of extensions completely.

Hair Porosity and Extensions

One of the things you should know about extensions is that they are very porous (Hair porosity is how your hair's ability to absorb and retain moisture or chemicals). They are like an open canvas and anything you put in there is what they're going to take and absorb. So you don't want to just go straight into the chlorine or salt water with dry hair as it’s going to suck that chlorine and salts up and that is not good for the extensions.

Preparation and Care Tips

First, apply a leave-in conditioner to wet hair with natural water, this is filling up the pores with all of the good stuff.

Next, what you're going to do is part your hair in 2 pieces or 1 and braid or bun your hair, that's going to help lock in that moisture whenever you go into the water and it's also going to prevent tangling as well.

Once you get out of the water whether it's the chlorine or saltwater you want to wring out all of that moisture that got absorbed into your natural hair and your extensions.

Swimming With Hair Extensions

If you have access to an outdoor or indoor shower or tap, rinse your hair with regular tap water so that you can take out all of the saltwater or chlorine that did get absorbed into your natural hair or your extensions, so that you can get it fresh and clean and that the chlorine and saltwater are not just being absorbed into your extensions.

After rinsing out your hair with water, we recommend spraying your hair with a leave-in conditioner that you can take with you to the beach or pool. After spraying your hair with leave-in conditioner, tie your hair in a bun or braid.
