Hair Extensions Brush

Brush Your Hair Often and Never When It's Wet

Brushing your extensions after washing them and ensuring they are completely dry is a crucial step in maintaining their quality. Wet hair is particularly vulnerable to damage, so this practice minimizes the risk of breakage and shedding. It's important to note that hair is more prone to breakage when it is wet. Instead, it is advisable to use your fingers to gently untangle any knots while the hair is still damp. To prevent shedding and breakage, take care to brush your extensions delicately. Start from the ends and gradually work your way up to the roots.

Use the Right Products on Your Hair

A good hair product can make all the difference between tangles and soft, manageable extensions. You should purchase products specifically designed for dry and damaged hair in order to keep the strands healthy and nourished. Adding moisture to your hair is also possible with products like argan oil. For the health of your extensions, it is imperative to purchase products that are free of sulphates. Hair integrity will be compromised by these ingredients as they strip it of natural oils. In turn, this causes the hair to be drier and more likely to tangle or mat.

Use a Water Soluble Silicone based Conditioner

Silicone is a common ingredient found in many hair care products, including shampoos, conditioners, hairsprays, and serums. It is a synthetic polymer with hydrophobic properties that create an impenetrable seal on the hair, helping to smooth the cuticle and retain moisture.

Silicones are categorized into three types based on their solubility: non-water soluble, partially soluble, and water-soluble.

Non-water soluble silicones are thick and heavy on the hair, leaving a wax-like texture, and cannot be washed away by water alone. Over time, non-water soluble silicones can cause build-up on the hair, which is not only unpleasant to the touch but can also negatively affect hair health. To remove non-water soluble silicones, shampoos containing sulfates are necessary as they break down the silicone on the hair.

Partially soluble silicones, on the other hand, will eventually evaporate after the conditioner has been applied, but hair that has used partially soluble silicones will still need to use sulfate shampoos to remove any product buildup and ensure healthy hair. Product buildup can be detrimental to hair health, and it's crucial to avoid it as much as possible.

Water-soluble silicones are the best type of silicone. They are lightweight and leave hair feeling silky smooth and soft. Unlike non-water soluble and partially soluble silicones, water-soluble silicones can be washed away by water alone, without the need for shampoo or any other product. Water-soluble silicones are the most desirable type of silicone as they are easy to wash off and do not cause any buildup on the hair.

When it comes to hair extensions, it is important to use a sulphate-free shampoo with a water soluble silicone conditioner to avoid product build-up.

In summary, it is not a matter of whether silicone is bad for hair and extensions, but rather which types of silicones are harmful. Water soluble silicones are the best option.

It is generally advisable to avoid silicone at first or to only use a leave-in conditioner, conditioner or hair treatment once a week. As soon as you notice that the hair is becoming more difficult to comb, you should increase the frequency of care with products containing water soluble silicone.

Quaternium-26 (Water soluble Silicone) enhances the appearance and feel of hair by increasing hair body, suppleness or sheen. It may also improve the texture of hair that has been damaged physically or by chemical treatment. Quaternium-26 also prevents or inhibits the buildup of static electricity. Pantene 3 Minute Miracle

Hair Extensions Shampoo

Hydrate Your Hair Extensions

Your extensions don't absorb oils like your natural hair, so you don't have to wash them as often. A general rule of thumb is to wash your extensions as little as possible so they last as long as possible. You should always hydrate your extensions before and after washing them by applying a moisturising sulphate-free conditioner.

It may even be possible to skip the shampoo and only co-wash your extensions with conditioner! At the end, rinse the extensions with cold water to seal in moisture and close cuticles.

You can apply a deep conditioning treatment or mask to your extensions when you notice they are dry or tangled. By doing so, they will be hydrated and rehydrated, and they will be softer and easier to style. For Clip In Extensions, dampen them and apply a generous amount of a sulphate and alcohol-free deep conditioning treatment or conditioner. Let them soak for 5-6 hours or overnight by putting them in a plastic bag or shower cap. Rinse off as normal the next day.

Hair Extensions Care

Carefully Handle Your Hair Extensions

In addition to improper hair care, extensions can also suffer from improper care. You should wash the extensions gently and avoid rubbing them vigorously when washing. When you are finished with the extensions, gently squeeze out any excess water. You should never rub your extensions dry with a towel. Instead, always lay them out on a flat surface and gently pat them dry or when air drying, use microfiber towels to remove excess moisture faster.

Hair Extensions Heat Protector

A Heat Protector Must Always Be Used When Heat Styling

After every wash, we do not recommend blow drying your extensions because this will make them dry and more prone to breakage. It is highly recommended that you air dry your extensions for the safest route, as this will also prevent tangles. Additionally, we recommend using a heat protectant spray before using any heat styling tool to extend the life of your hair extensions. Moreover, we recommend using only a low heat setting of 60-180 degrees Celsius to avoid damaging the hair.

If you need to use your extensions immediately after washing them, make sure that you are using a cool setting to avoid any heat damage, and that you do not brush the hair until it is 90% dry. The best way to blow dry wefts is to start with the roots and work your way downward. It is always recommended to blow-dry downwards so that not only will the cuticle be smoothed but the hair will also avoid becoming tangled due to the varied directions in which it is being blown.

Hair Products That Are Heavy Should Be Limited

You can prevent tangling by limiting the number of products you apply to your hair. It is likely to clog up your extensions when you use sticky products like hairspray, gel, or wax. Using more products will result in you washing your extensions more often, causing them to become dry and tangled. Additionally, any products you use on your natural hair can transfer to your extensions.
